Founded in 1987, Number One North East London offers an abstinence based treatment programme of group therapy . The service is free for residents of Redbridge and is easily accessible for clients, living at home, wanting to abstain from all mood altering substances.

Initially the service was set up for people with drink problems but, with current trends, is increasingly treating clients addicted to more than one drug. The service is very successful, with a high proportion of clients achieving their goals and a year after entering treatment up to 70% remaining abstinent.

Clients commit to attending full time (Monday to Friday 10.00a.m. to 1.00 p.m.) for a minimum of two weeks. Ongoing treatment is available and aftercare is provided in evening groups. Fund raising social events are organised by Friends of 1NE.

Families/carers and friends of people who have a drink or drug problem are also offered individual counselling and group therapy. The Family Forum meets for leisure activities and also holds fund raising events.

Due to clients requests, we have established a young persons’ service, (NE Teens) for youngsters (12 years +) whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drink or drug problem.
