PHILOSOPHY
COUNSELLING PHILOSOPHY
- Abstinence based
- Intregrative approach with counsellors having been trained in different theories facilitating different groups. These approaches include psychodynamic, CBT and Person-Centred.
- After a non-negotiable first two week full time attendance and a further four weeks full time, individual clients are involved in creating their own programme to suit personal needs.
- We adhere to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory policies.
- Clients are treated in a respectful manner and encouraged to take responsibility for their own recovery.
Relapse
Relapse is a common problem (although not inevitable) and responded to as part of recovery. Clients who do relapse are welcomed back 24 hours after their last drink or drug and as much as possible is learned from discussion of the context of the relapse. When a client finds it difficult to remain abstinent, referral to a ‘safer’ environment is explored (e.g. residential rehab), or sometimes the individual is placed on a personalised written contract. This provides the structure and boundaries needed to support continued recovery.
